Privacy Issues/Digital Footprint
Privacy issues regarding our information, networking, and other parts of our entire online life is a major concern for anybody who makes use of the internet today. Parents, students, children, businesses, and more are all at risk for privacy threats, damage, hacking, and things of the like. There are many articles online that spell out these concerns such as theft, malicious information gain, harassment and more, and provide tips, tricks, guidelines, and routines to practice a safe and healthy way to use the internet. Popular social networking sites such as facebook, twitter, and skype are all able to gain private information regarding personal info and issues, and banking information. Parents can keep tabs on children, teachers can connect with students, and employers can research employees and find pictures, information, and conversations involving the person being searched. I think once you are aware of these issues, it is easy to take the right steps. My personal facebook has custom high privacy settings, and I helped my parents set their facebooks up the same way. Theres always important ways to protect your information and keep it personal, a mature user should be aware of these before sharing info, networking, or using the internet to purchase goods.

Blog Activity 2 - Companies using RSS feeds to inform employees/customers.
In this assignment, we were told to find an article about companies using RSS feeds to inform customers and/or employees on various topics. After a while of browsing, trying a number of search terms, I found a great article on the topic. It was short, organized, and easy to understand. You can find the article here.
Summary
This article focused on creative and modern ways that companies may use RSS feeds to spread information to customers/employees. Where in the past, RSS feeds were used mostly to spread news and headlines across websites and readers, companies have now begun using them domestically to spread information and data amongst clients. After a brief rundown of how beneficial using RSS feeds within the company can be, the article becomes more detailed listing specific uses of the RSS feeds and how they can be beneficial. One simple, yet extremely useful benefit listed is using the RSS feeds to spread PDF documents. These documents can hold information that would normally be sent through hundreds or thousands of emails containing business memo's, meeting details, holiday schedules, or any kind of information of the like. If this information was instead put into a PDF and displayed through an RSS feed, all employees (who would be subscribers) would get an instant notification and all be able to view the information off of one RSS feed update. This could save time, and create a more simplistic and efficient way to communicate on a large scale. Another great benefit would be allowing RSS feeds to spread downloads of either software or powerpoint presentations, allowing all employees to view the information update, and decide whether the download is or is not beneficial to them and there work progress. This would be more well rounded and distributed more widely then picking and choosing who to email. Finally, on the customer end, RSS feeds could be used to display photos or videos. This could display content to customers/potential customers on new product available, video tours (real estate) and more.
This article was very appealing to me as it was simple, yet to the point, and very informative. The list method of breaking down a number of benefits and describing them is blatant and easy to understand. This article would be important to any kind of business owner to become more educated on the benefits of using RSS feeds among customers/employees.

WEB APP REVIEW - "FARMIGO"
In my current Information Technologies class, we were assigned to do some research on a current web application, and share our thoughts.
I chose the healthy and convenient grocery app- Farmigo: http://www.farmigo.com.
Farmigo is an online community of sorts, based on the process of purchasing groceries in a community type of way. The benefits of purchasing food this way are numerous, and are the type of benefits that Farmigo survives on, as well as helping the public become conveniently familiar with them.
Benefits
One main benefit of using Farmigo's community shopping strategies, is that when the produce is bought in bulk, it allows for a friendlier price. With processed and unhealthy foods as expensive they are, and organic/farm-fresh produce at a higher price, purchasing food in higher quantities results in a lower price for everyone included.
In addition to this, Farmigo finds locally grown food for you and your food-purchasing-group. This helps the customer feel more comfortable knowing where the food is coming from, and how it is grown. This is a positive step in straying from the over processed genetically grown unhealthy grocery group, into the freshly grown and organically taken care of grocery group. As Farmigo explains in there own list of benefits, this community based purchasing power will help you avoid the "low price that does not include the cost of future health bills and environmental degradation from toxic chemicals that are used."
With the world economy in such shaky shape, it is important and benefiicial to delve in and help support our local economy, because that's where it starts. This kind of support will help develop relationships and understand as to what real fresh grown food is and its benefits to us. Drawbacks
As with any beneficial service, it is possible to find what may be seen as drawbacks. I found a few myself after a little research.
Because this service revolves around the work your local farmer does, and the purchasing that his community does, it is understandable that the third party "hosting service" of sorts, wants to create regular business activity. Thus, to become active with Farmigo you must adhere to a term contract, kind of like a cell phone bill. A lot of partakers may want the freedom of being able to come and go, however the contract service may keep you locked in.
In addition to this, a community must be put together to do purchasing. Farmigo currently is in business with 1,550 locations. If you cannot find a community or location set up already near you, it may be neccesary for you to do some legwork, with the guidance of a Farmigo assisant, to set up the service in your community.
Being that the purchasing is done for numerous groups/people, home delivery is usually not offered. It is common that a meeting/pick up place will be agreed upon for picking up the groceries. Also, for many questions/conerns, or if you are not happy with a delivery, Farmigo does not appear to have any direct customer service that connects to the farming location for you. These kind of things are encouraged to be taken care of personally with the farmer.
With a solid community, it seems easy to create some healthy and all round beneficial support for you, your community, and your economy using Farmigo.com. There website is full of helpful information, guides, and FAQ for more understanding.

BRAVEHEART PROJECT!
Just finished presentations for our latest class project, a wiki design and alice movie creation based off of a movie quote. My group, including me, Richie, and Harry, chose Braveheart. In specific, the quote "They may take our lives, but they will never take our freedom."
We created a wiki page displaying the video we created in Alice, as well as a flowchart and methods list depicting the methods and scenes in our movie. In the movie, we created a black and a red army, introduced them, and showed there clash with each other. In the end, the red team wins.
Presentation wise, I think we did pretty well. Each knew what we had to talk about, and were comfortable and knowledgable about the project we created.
